Principal's Welcome

A Chairde,

I am incredibly proud to be the Principal of such a fantastic school. From the first day in my role as Principal I have been amazed by the dedication of all the staff and the extra lengths they will go to when it comes to helping our pupils. This commitment enables the school to fulfil its mission statement in helping the pupils and staff alike reach their potential. The curriculum on offer at St. Joseph's also helps us meet this goal. We offer a wide range of courses that match the needs of the pupils. When this is combined with hard work and inspirational teaching we have a combination that promotes success.

We also want the young men of St. Joseph’s to thrive outside the classroom environment. To help us reach this goal we offer a variety of extracurricular activities that allow pupils a chance to express themselves in different ways. We encourage pupils to take part in after school clubs where they are afforded the opportunity to learn a new skill set or develop existing ones. These clubs run alongside other societies that promote spirituality and Christianity.

As a school we are intent on advancing the holistic development of our pupils and our Catholic ethos is really important to us. We want pupils to treat themselves and others with respect both inside and outside the walls of the school. We take our responsibility to promote social justice very seriously and this is reflected in our pastoral care system which is second to none. In this caring environment our pupils have a chance to develop self-esteem and an opportunity to live up to the school motto "vir justus".

We understand that no school exists in isolation and we are honoured to be situated in the proud city of Newry. We want to celebrate our continuing success with the community around us and we plan on playing an even more active role in community life. When our pupils leave St. Joseph’s we want them to make a positive contribution to the future of Newry, not just through employment but also through building a society we can be even more proud of

I am a firm believer in the Irish proverb “Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí”. Praise the young they will blossom.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website which hopefully gives you a taster of what we are about and the direction we are hoping to travel in the future.

Beirigí bua,

Declan Murray
