Summer 2019 Examinations

Examinations start Wednesday 12th June and revision should be underway at home, spending time each evening revising for these exams. Examination timetables will be distributed to pupils Friday 31st May. Please put it in a prominent place at home to help with the revision timetable. The examination timetables will also be posted on our Social media sites.

Irish News Trip

The Irish News quoted the following; ‘We had St Joseph’s Boys’ High School with us this morning as they enjoy their news experience day! They loved taking part in our Young News Readers Project and now they are seeing how the world of newspaper works. 🗞 Our editor Noel Doran told the pupils how to create an impressive newspaper. 🌟 We then gave them the task of creating their own front page... I think we have a few future editors in our midst. 📰 After some pizza 🍕 the boys visited InterPress, where our paper is printed to see how the final product comes together. Sporting Success

Congratulations to our Year 8 pupil Jamie Carlon who was crowned today as Northern Ireland’s top trampolinist. Jamie is in NDP level 2, 13+ boys. He is delighted and will now compete in British Championships in 2 weeks. Well done Jamie and best wishes. 👏👏

Home Economics Key Stage 3

Congratulations to all the pupils in KS3 Home Economics Classes who this week completed their summer practical exam entitled ‘You have 1 hour, show me what you have learned!’ I am very proud of all the boys this week and the wonderful dishes they made. Mrs K Legge Head of Home Economics

‘Super You’

This afternoon our Year 9 pupils had the privilege of listening to a presentation from the "Super You" group. James and past pupil Declan Loy spoke to our pupils about achieving their dreams. Since leaving St Joseph's Declan had gone on to break an Ironman triathlon world record.


Our Under 16 Down School’s Cup winner’s enjoyed a celebration meal today in Bellini’s Restaurant. Thank you to Bellini’s for the lovely food and service.

Work4UPlus Programme

Some of our young men on the Work4UPlus programme completed a cookery session with Aine's Kitchen Cookery School - they were a bit dubious about eating the dish at first, as some of them had never tasted it before. Music Success

Congratulations to Year 10 student Aodhan Watters who passed his Grade 1 Cello exam in the Spring examination period. Thank you to our Lower Strings tutor Mrs Masterson for teaching and preparing Aodhan for this exam.


Thanks to the Cinemagic Team for delivering their engaging Film Review Workshop. Students considered plot, characters, sound and entertainment value across a selection of short films.

Spinathon Presentation

It was our pleasure today to present two cheques to KBRT and Evie’s Journey, totalling £6,000. K.B.R.T received a cheque for £3,000 to help with the fantastic work they do in the community and Evie’s Journey received a cheque for £3,000 to help Evie out as much as possible. Gaelic Blitz

Well done to our Year 8 Gaelic footballers 🏐who won the Ben Dearg Plate competition today. Victories over teams from Abbey CBS Newry, St. Louis Kilkeel, St. Malachy’s Castlewellan & St. Patrick’s Banbridge ensured another cup made its way back to the Armagh Road. Congratulations to all the team and Mr Rodgers and Mr Brady. 👏👏👏

GCSE Art and Design Exhibition 2019

Thank you to staff, parents and pupils who visited the GCSE Art and Design exhibition this afternoon. What a wonderful display of paintings, printing, fashion, pottery and much more. Our Year 12 students are very talented indeed. Thank you to our Head of Art Mrs Hurley, she is a wonderful teacher and she certainly goes the extra mile with all her students! 😊 Well done everyone 👏👏👏

Farewell Year 12

This afternoon we said our goodbyes to our wonderful Year 12 students. Pupils were presented with their record of achievement and a Year group photograph. The Year Head Mr Rodgers addressed the year group wishing them every success in their examinations and future career paths. He thanked the form teachers for all their efforts over the last 5 years, for nurturing and mentoring the students. Pupils enjoyed refreshments and a slice of cake with staff to mark the end of an era. Although the timetable has finished certain teachers are still teaching and revising the course until their examination is over. Please take this opportunity to attend all classes when possible. SRC Presentation

Congratulations to all of our Year 12 boys who attended SRC over the last two years on achieving great results in their Occupational Studies qualifications. All of the boys attended the SRC, SPP (Schools Partnership Programme) Awards in the Canal Court today where they were presented with their certificates of achievement. Particular congratulations to Ryan Conachy for achieving the highest marks in ICT and Rory McAleavey for achieving the highest marks in Plastering. Both boys completed their qualifications to the highest standard in their year and were presented with prizes relevant to their achievements along with their certificates. Well done boys great work. Fight for Alfie Presentation

It was lovely to meet 6 year old Alfie Pentony and his father Jamie this morning. Mr Mulholland and Year 11 students, Matthew McCartan, Robbie Kelly and Aaron Brookes presented a cheque for £325.00 to the ‘Fight for Alfie’ Fund on behalf of all our students. This money was raised when we held a ‘Green Day’ on the 15th March 2019. 💚 Thanks to Mr Mulholland for organising the event and we wish Alfie all the best with his treatment.
