Newry's weeping willow - Tree of the year

As part of the National Famine Commemoration visit to Newry, in 2015, St Joseph’s Boys’ History Department created a Famine website which focused on its effect on Newry.  Part of this website made reference to the important role that the Newry Work House and the Pauper’s Graveyard played in this terrible period in our history.  We would like to get behind the campaign to get “The Weeping Tree”, which grows in the graveyard crowned “Northern Ireland’s Tree of the Year”.  The historic location and visual symbolism of the tree we feel merits substantive recognition and deserves to be celebrated by our community.  The clock is ticking so please cast your vote before 8th October:
